Kelthar, the first of the royal family, was a wise and trustworthy king from a blood-line that has lost their powers because of war, bankruptcy, and diseases that spread, victimized and scourged the land. His ancestors used to live in a small village, living the humble lives of farmers. After years, Kelthar was born, the turning point in the history of his family.

At the tender age of five, he was educated in the art of war, taught by profound experience and learned with exceeding excellence. By the mere age of fifteen, he had already graduated early and moved forward with sword and spear techniques. At the age of 18, the age at which boys developed with amazing speed, his sword flashed blindly fast and his spear thrust with alarming accuracy. With power and skill at his side, he gathered the disgruntled and disenfranchised, taking up arms and raising them against the corrupted rulers of his empire. The country of Calderon, later known as the Black Sun, were waiting for such an opportunity, and with Kelthar, they strengthened his forces beyond what the great rebel leader had expected. Bearing a grin of bloodlust and certain victory, he led the people forth. Those who called themselves the Empire of Light met Kelthar and his forces with blade and steel. The foolish Emperor, Subulo, flourished the battlefield with his presence. And his blood.

Greed fuelled his desire to maintain his throne, pride caused him to lose focus and wrath was his downfall, blinding him to a simple tactical maneuver any foot soldier could have avoided. With a swift stroke, Kelthar severed Emperor Subulo’s head and let it hang by his hair in Kelthar’s hands for all on the battlefield to see. With their emperor lost, the Empire’s forces had no one else to give orders and had no one lead them anymore. Gripping his bloodied weapon tightly in his hand, the general of the Empire growled low and deep. Kelthar’s men pointed their weapons at him, expecting the man to burst force with fury. The general’s men looked to him, understanding him, and smiled. With a great howl, the general threw his weapon to the ground and shouted for joy. His men did the same, slamming their weapons onto the earth or flinging them as hard as they could into the empty fields and cried for joy, for they were finally freed from the chains of the Subulo and released from the corrupt duties coerced upon them as protectors of the Empire. Cheers for Kelthar – Emperor Kelthar - rang far into the night, reaching upon the heavens that the Gods themselves should hear the deed he has done.

The peace brought about the fall of the Empire of Light was short-lived. Fear, despair, mental incapacity or perhaps manipulation brought about a berserk Night Fall, releasing his bloodlust unto the people. Sixteen of them fell to his rampage while four barely lived to tell the tale, lying on hospital beds in near-critical conditions. The Imperial Army was dispatched without hesitation to capture the wild Night Fall. Unfortunately, fear was ingrained in the minds of the people. All of the Night Fall were suddenly feared, shunned and marginalized. They demanded that all Night Fall be taken under charge and the Imperials concurred. This was not what the Night Fall wanted. This was not what they expected of the newly formed Imperials. Yet, they could do nothing to resolve the situation for now, and desperation took over. They took up arms and clashed with the Imperial Army.

The war worsened. Before, where communities knew peace and borders were only noticed on maps marking one location from another, then, the same maps were redrawn, boundaries and territories boldly marked wherever the scars of battles could be seen in the earth. Six grueling years went by with both sides suffering severe losses. However, the victors were clearly the humans, whose knowledge were most suitable to use on their homeland. The Night Fall, lacking the best agricultural methods and industrial practices, could barely survive another year against the foul humans.

As the Night Fall were driven further away from human lands and their Kingdom of Nocturnia was close to becoming besieged, they stepped up their defenses, boosted their attacks, and unleashed a fighting fury never known until their homeland was threatened. For the humans, it was now or never. Emperor Kelthar XV ordered the dispatch of the Imperial’s finest combatants – the Black Rose Royal guards. They were trained for an all-out assault against the Night Fall, and they rode into battle now, battle fervor rising.

Barely had the Black Rose Royal Guards neared the enemy encampment when a Night Fall force mounted an attack from the rear. The Night Fall were not novices of war, they too had prepared their own trump card. The Black Rose Royal Guard mustered and lay hidden in a marsh, waiting for night to fall and the Night Fall camp to slumber. When they felt that the moment was right, and the sentries finally slept on duty, the Royal Guards drew their weapons and charged forth…

A war cry resounded deafeningly behind them as a hidden force of Night Fall revealed themselves, and as their weapons clashed against the Royal Guards, The encampment sudden became alive with activity, with its main force armed to the teeth and battle-ready. Caught in a pincer attack, the Royal Guards fought, drawing as much blood as they could, while retreating through the waves of enemies. Though ambushed, the Royal Guards were still mighty warriors, cutting across the battlefield like Spartans. However, like Spartans, they were still human, and humans can bleed.

The Black Rose Royal Guard returned to Caelus that day, their forces diminished to a ghost of their former strength, their pride shattered into shards so tiny they cannot be gather, and their honour lost such that death would have been a more desirable option compared to returning to their Emperor.
